With faststone one could get by without FastPictureViewer but IMO not without FastPictureViewer Codecs in a Windows 7 environment. I have also install faststone for you can not beat its price and I still recomend it to friends.Ĭonsidering the cost of my Cameras, Photoshop and computer hardware the cost of FastPictureViewer and Codecs are well worth their cost for the function they provide. FastPictureViewer threading and Video Card support is better then Fastone software. FastPictureViewer does not have many features that are found in Faststone but the ones it does have that Faststons has are done better and are faster then Fastone given the right hardware. I can now also rank images as well as cull image somthing I could not do in Fastone. Which to my surprise I found was faster then Fasstone and it also supported Photoshop compatible XMP Sidecar files. I was so impressed with FastPictureViewer codecs I also purchased FastPictureViewer. Looking for a solution I installedd Camera makers RAW Codec and also FastPictureViewer Codec package. The bigest problem I had with Windows 7 was I no longer had thumbnails for images files like RAW and PSD files in windows explorer and file dialogs. Windows 7 cause me to look for soultions for some short comings which were filled by some programs I had installed in Windows XP.

I used it all the time for viewing the previews jpeg embedded images in raw files to cull bad files before using Adobe Bridge to shorten the Bridge cache building delay and reduce the consumption of machine needed by the bridge. Yes for its price Faststone is a great program. Would be nice to hear from someone using Nikon and NX2. Perhaps there is a "misunderstaning" between Faststone and Photoshop/Canon on the EXIF format. All my image files were created by Photoshop CS3 from Canon raw. Would appreciate it if others would test and confirm. It creates the new file in sRGB and inlcudes the sRGB colorspace tag. If the original input file is in sRGB, Faststone has no problem.

This happens regardless of the "CMS" color management setting in Faststone. Simply do a "save as" with a new file name. This happens even if I make no edits or resizing in Faststone. And worse, the EXIF of files created by Faststone from non-sRGB inputs have no color space tag.

On my Windows XP system, every file I create with Faststone is in sRGB, regardless of the color space of the original input file. Sent a note to their support e-mail address, but have no response in 7 days. Never got to the resize evaluation because I got hung up with an apparent error in the color space and EXIF of files created by Faststone. A recent thread claimed that Faststone's image resize was superior, so I tried it.
